Strangeloop Networks’ Virginia Balcom Named as Finalist in 5th Annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business
Stevie Award Winners to Be Announced in New York on November 14
Vancouver, BC -October 23, 2008 - Virginia Balcom, vice president of marketing at Strangeloop Networks was named a Finalist in the “Best Canadian Executive” category in The 5th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, and the companies they run – worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word “crowned,” winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York on Friday, November 14. Nominated women executives and entrepreneurs from the U.S. and several other countries are expected to attend.

More than 1,200 entries were submitted for consideration in 50 categories, including Best Executive, Best Entrepreneur, and Best Community Involvement Program. Virginia Balcom is a Finalist in the “Best Canadian Executive category”. Finalists were chosen by business professionals worldwide during preliminary judging. Members of the Awards' Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs will select Stevie Award winners from among the Finalists during final judging.

Virginia Balcom joined Strangeloop Networks in April 2007 as VP of Marketing and immediately created an exceptional marketing program, and within just a few weeks after the company’s launch, Strangeloop’s AS1000 Application Scaling Appliance won “Best of Tech Ed 2007” in the Web Development and Infrastructure category – an esteemed award within the Microsoft development community. In 2008, Strangeloop launched its new product, the WS1000 Web Services Accelerator, which also won “Best of Tech Ed 2008,” in the Hardware, Networking and Storage category.

Through her marketing expertise and leadership, Virginia has continued to strengthen Strangeloop’s brand through innovative means. Gartner analysts, Joe Skorupa and Mark Fabbi have identified Strangeloop as a strong contender in the Application Delivery Controller market, and have named Strangeloop a Cool Vendor, highlighting Strangeloop’s innovative and unique solution. Other examples of Strangeloop’s success in Virginia’s hands in 2008 include receiving the following awards:
  • Recipient of the Red Herring 100 Award:  a selection of the 100 most innovative private technology companies based in North America.
  • Recipient of Redmond Magazine’s 2008 Editors choice award in the “Best Value in Hardware” category.
  • Recipient of Rocket Builders “Ready to Rocket 25.” Strangeloop was selected as a company best positioned to capitalize on the 2008 information technology trends.

“Virginia’s marketing expertise is integral to our success and to our leadership status in the ASP.NET application acceleration market,” said Jonathan Bixby, chief executive officer of Strangeloop. “Being nominated as a finalist in The Stevie Awards underscores her drive, innovation and ability to execute her marketing campaigns flawlessly. We are extremely proud to have Virginia on our team.”

“Being named a Finalist in The Stevie Awards for Women in Business is an important achievement,” said Michael Gallagher, president of the Stevie Awards. “It means that independent business executives have agreed that the nominee is worthy of recognition. We congratulate all of the Finalists on their achievement and wish them well in the competition.”
